The Clubhouse Lawn at Trillium Lake Club in Cashiers, NC, is a lovely wedding ceremony location with an incredible backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The bride, Rachel, spent all of her summers as a child here in the mountains of North Carolina. Many of her fondest memories with family were made in the area. It seemed like the perfect place to begin a new life with her best friend and future husband. Rachel and Harold were such an energetic and charismatic couple. I enjoyed working with them and wish them all the best as they begin this exciting chapter together!
The bride incorporated multiple significant details into her wedding day and I asked her to expand on them. First of all, my cousin Meredith made the ribbons that hung from the chairs for our ceremony.
Since Harold and I are old fashioned and decided not to do a first look, I really wanted to share that moment with my Daddy. My Dad has always been very proud of me through my accomplishments in life. The moment he turned around and saw me in my wedding dress, I saw the biggest smile I have ever seen on his face. I am the youngest of three and have always been Daddy’s little girl. I think it finally hit him that he was giving me away and trusting Harold to love and protect me.
First look with the Father of the Bride
My Dad has worked incredibly hard to provide for our family and to give me the wedding of my dreams so I wanted to have something made for him to remember that day forever. I gave him a custom embroidered handkerchief with a little message from me. I also had one made for my mom and Harold’s parents.
Harold graduated from West Point and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Because of this reason, it was so important to us to incorporate military traditions, such as swordsmen with sabers, into our wedding.
Wedding Party
Most of all, we wanted to have a special moment of prayer together before the ceremony began to thank God for how He has worked in our lives and brought us together. It felt so good to hold Harold’s hand and to hear his voice and made me even more ready to marry him, if that was even possible!
We exited our ceremony at the Trillium Lake Club through The Arch of Sabers and I received my official welcome to the Army with a swat on the rear.
The brown tree centerpieces at our reception tables were originally white. I hand-painted each of them myself. My bridesmaid Morgan showcased her talent for calligraphy by making our welcome sign.
The wooden rounds we used as part of our centerpieces were cut from a tree we took down in our backyard. Together, with the help of my parents, we hand sealed all of them.
Our wedding was everything I could have wished for and more. It couldn’t have been done without the help of so many friends and family members. Harold and I are so appreciative of everyone who came to celebrate with us and those that couldn’t make it but celebrated from afar.

She has work on display in the Peace College permanent collection and has taught at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. She has also been published in Weddings Unveiled Magazine and her work is on display locally at WNC Pediatrics. Terri serves all areas of Western North Carolina including Asheville, Waynesville, Maggie Valley, Cashiers, Highlands, Franklin, Cherokee, Bryson City and enjoys traveling beyond the region on request.
