Tucked into the foothills of Western North Carolina in Whittier is a sweet little barn on a gorgeous 22 acre property of forests, meadows and creeks. So when Caleb and Reilly were on the hunt for an affordable, local venue for their wedding, they found exactly what they were wanting in the Vintage Barn Events.
The Back Story
Both from North Carolina, Caleb and Reilly met at Western Carolina University in the fall of 2016. After a beautiful proposal at Biltmore Estate on a very snowy day in December, the couple set a date for their big day. They chose the Vintage Barn for its convenient location and because it is surrounded by the couple’s favorite mountains. They felt that overall the space suited them perfectly.
Getting Ready
The day started out in typical wedding fashion with Reilly and her bridal party getting ready at the bridal lounge. The atmosphere was relaxed and laid back as we started shooting the wedding party photos around the property. Julie and Lindsi, wedding coordinators, stuck close by to make sure that the day went off without a hitch.
Special Moments
Since the bride and groom weren’t going to see each other pre-ceremony, they wrote sweet notes to each other in anticipation of their big day. Capturing the moments of their readings was both magical and tearful.
The Ceremony
The ceremony was family-oriented and mostly traditional, with a few fun changes like the bride being escorted by both her mother and father.
The wedding ceremony flew by, and Caleb & Reilly were pronounced as Mr. and Mrs. Bonner, sealing the union with a kiss.
The Photos
After the ceremony, we were able to capture full wedding party photos as well as fantastic shots of the couple. There was a lot of laughter and cutting up amongst the group, which made my job all the easier. Vintage Barn Events space lent to a gorgeous and serene location to snap shots in a natural environment. Even the barn mimicked the landscape in its curves.
The Reception
The mostly DIY reception was bright and open with a starry night sky strung amongst the barn’s rafters. The night was topped off with a “naked” cake by Beehive Bakery, down-home cooking by Blue Rooster Southern Grill and plenty of dancing. The Darren Nicholson Band, friends of the couple, completed the relaxed and fun feel of the reception. Guests relaxed and unwound while enjoying a festive show!
The Details
This DIY bride and groom had no issues executing a thrilling wedding day. Reilly had a very specific vision with the main goal of having fun. Working within a limited budget, she created a ceremony, reception, food and decor with class and style.
One of the most spectacular things about Vintage Barn Events is that they are truly a gorgeous venue within reach for smaller budgets. In addition, they allow plenty of time for setup and tear down and are graciously accommodating to the needs of any individual, wedding, or event.
After the wedding day came to a close, the couple set out on a driving tour of the northern states with their pups, Tsali and Hazel, for their honeymoon. Truly a nod to their carefree and adventurous spirits.
