Glassy Mountain Chapel in Landrum, SC is a stunning location for a wedding ceremony. The view from the chapel is truly incredible. With bright blue skies above and miles of green valley below. A champagne reception followed at the Pavilion near Glassy Mountain Chapel. The large reception took place in the gazebo within The Cliffs at Keowee Falls community.
Rather than have a wedding planner, the pair opted for Katherine’s parents, Dee Dee and David, to assist them instead. According to Michael, “They helped us with every detail of the wedding. We really couldn’t have done it without them. Katherine would find something she liked online and her parents made it reality. She jokes they made her “Pinterest dream wedding” come true!”
I asked Katherine if she could share her own thoughts and details about the couple’s celebration.
Our wedding day was the happiest day of my life. It was full of old friends, family, lots of South Carolina sunshine and laughter. The ceremony was in a tiny stone chapel that looked like it was out of a fairy tale. Even before the ceremony, as we looked out over the valley, it seemed like we were looking out at our beautiful future. We truly felt like this was the beginning of living “happily ever after.”

Being professional classical musicians, my husband and I were able to convince our colleagues and friends to perform at our ceremony. My best friends from my graduate opera program sang french and german art songs before the ceremony began and they sang the Lakme Flower Duet as I walked down the aisle.
After the ceremony, there were hugs, laughs and plenty of champagne at a pavillion overlooking the valley.
My dad built a photo wall with pictures from both sets of parents weddings. He also designed and built a beer bar for the reception.
The reception food by DishOut Cafe and Catering was incredible!
We had strawberry shortcakes on each table so Michael and I got to cut a lot of cake! Our guests loved having us come around to each table so that everyone got to see us make the first slice and share a quick kiss!
Michael and I had a traditional ceremony so we took a moment at the reception to share our personal vows we had written.
We also played one silly wedding game, often referred to as “the shoe game”. Michael and I sat back to back as our best man Ryan asked us questions such as “Who is the better cook?” and “Who is the better driver?”. We held up the corresponding shoe for each answer and our guests howled with laughter whenever we automatically agreed or disagreed.
There were lots of hugs as Michael and I left the reception. We felt like the luckiest couple in the world to be surrounded by so much love and positive energy! Everything from the beer to the chapel to the flowers (by Amy Brown) to the shortcakes to the guests and family went perfectly. We started our marriage with full hearts.
